We'll Crown the Best Game of the Console Generation: Final Four
These last 48 hours have been incredibly eventful. On Monday, we celebrated the five-year anniversary of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X with a tournament to decide the best first-party game of this console generation. We presented eight PlayStation 5 titles and eight Xbox Series X exclusives to compete against each other, culminating in a championship round where the top game from each console would battle it out. There have been some incredibly close calls in the first two rounds, particularly the extremely tight polls from the previous day. At this point, it's moment to decide the leading PlayStation and Xbox titles before the championship on Thursday.
PlayStation 5 Contenders
For PlayStation 5, we have the Kratos-killer, Astro Bot. Maybe it should be no surprise given that it took home the top prize at the previous year's gaming accolades, but its victory over God of War Ragnarök feels like a true upset. But to get to the finals, it'll have to go through the most valuable player of the PlayStation 5 era: Insomniac Games. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 enjoyed an easy journey to the semi-finals, defeating Ghost of Yōtei and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (another Insomniac game!) to secure a spot in the final four. Can Spidey topple a home-grown Sony mascot, or is he fated to become a chibi cameo in the upcoming Astro Bot title?
The Xbox Series X Side
The Xbox Series X side has been more exciting. Coming out on top from a more eclectic field of contenders is Forza Horizon 5. It's a significant win for the open-world driving game already, proving that a more specialized genre game earns to be on the equal footing as traditional jump-and-run games and story-driven epics. Its last roadblock on the way to the championship is a major challenge, though. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has proven to be a crowd favorite, beating critical darlings like Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush. Can it beat a larger-scale title from an well-known franchise that's synonymous with the Xbox brand? If anyone can pull that off, it's probably Indy.
Place your ballots to decide the top PlayStation and Xbox titles of this generation, and come back tomorrow to see which games will face off for the grand prize in the championship round!
