A 14-year-old youth was discovered deceased just days following being wrongly blamed of taking the ashes of a deceased baby during a break-in, an inquest has learned.

Tragic Finding

The young boy's mother and father found his remains in his bedroom at his Flintshire home on November 19th, 2021.

Untrue Allegations Begin

The investigation learned how his parent received a message on 8 November 2021 via online platforms, from a woman asking if Kai was her offspring. The communication added: "Inform him thanks for breaking into my apartment."

In a statement presented to the court, the mother said the woman had been in the news, claiming her baby's ashes had been taken in a burglary - a allegation which was false.

Law Enforcement Inquiry

An investigation report from authorities later determined the alleged break-in victim had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that said property was not stolen in the first place".

Media reports about the alleged taken ashes generated social media comments, and although the teenager was not named in the messages, his parent said people "understood it was him".

The "online posts were really upsetting", she stated.

Mental Health Impact

She explained that Kai had been diagnosed with mild ADHD, and as part of that condition, other peoples' opinions genuinely mattered to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she commented, "particularly when this was not true".

Kai was detained at his residence, but no evidence was discovered. He was transported to a law enforcement facility and later freed pending further inquiry.

Authorities said they would be in contact, the inquest learned, but had failed to contacted the relatives by the moment of his death.

Withdrawal and Anxiety

His mother said her son "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had received anything from the police", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like much longer".

When she spoke to him about the alleged burglary, she said her child told her he had entered the house because the woman who lived there had said he could use the toilet anytime he needed, but refuted taking anything.

Online Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, the mother said her child was being harassed digitally after the accusations.

The proceedings learned that one young adult encouraged Kai to kill himself.

She had no worries on the evening before he died, describing how she had listened to him "chuckling and teasing".

She described him as a "caring, loving" young man, and said her "relatives is totally devastated".

He had been "obviously concealing his worries", she stated, noting that he could not bear to have anybody "think bad of him".

Educational Response

The inquest heard from educational staff at the local secondary school.

On 8 November, she "overheard some boys discussing that Kai had been arrested and that was the first I learned".

"He told me... he'd done nothing wrong," she added.

After the discussion, the educator said she called Kai's family telephone and provided a voicemail saying she had communicated to Kai about the allegations.

The court heard his parents said they never got that communication.

Official Conclusion

Lead coroner told the hearing he would wait for documents regarding what enhancements had been made to dealing with suspects with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of subsequent fatalities report.

Delivering a descriptive finding, he stated: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against the teenager, a 14-year-old child.

"Probably falsehoods were afterwards embellished and exaggerated through the medium of online networks.

"On 11 November, he was questioned by the authorities and following his questioning he was freed whilst inquiries continued."

The coroner determined: "There is no proof that the acts or failures of any organization caused or contributed to his passing and although it was the outcome of a personal act it is not possible to discern his intent."
